Authentic South Indian & Konkan food

The Batter Platter on a Banana Leaf !

In a world where ever-evolving trends take the centre stage, the essence of traditional recipes is fading out. The joy of slow cooking is replaced with quick tips, quick recipes and shorter patience levels. Flavours are rushed, and the quiet beauty of age-old methods is often considered a waste of time.

So, we want to restore the love for lost recipes of South India and Konkan & slow living because you are what you eat.

Lost recipes of India

At The Batter House, we choose a non-compromising path. We honour the patience, simplicity, and authenticity that define traditional cooking – believing that some recipes don’t need reinvention, only respect.

By staying rooted in time-honoured techniques and honest ingredients, we strive to preserve flavours as they were meant to be experienced – pure, comforting, and deeply soulful.

From Our Kitchen to Your Soul

At The Batter House, the care that begins in our batter continues all the way to your table and from there to your soul.

Every dish is prepared and served with the same attention and responsibility we grew up with – the kind our aajis believed in. Clean kitchens, mindful hands, and thoughtful processes are not just standards here; they are habits rooted in upbringing.

Our chefs work in a calm, hygienic environment, following strict cleanliness protocols at every step – from preparation to plating. Each dosa is cooked fresh, every grain of amboli and ghavne handled with care, ensuring that what reaches you is not just delicious, but safe, wholesome, and comforting.

We believe food should be served with dignity and warmth. With quiet elegance and sincere care, our team ensures that every plate carries reassurance – the feeling that you are being looked after, just as you would be at home.

Because at The Batter House, it’s never just about serving food.
It’s about serving happiness, trust, and the comfort of home.

THE STORY OF BATTER

Our Batter, Our DNA

At The Batter House, everything begins with the batter and with memories.

We remember the old times, when our grandmothers (aaji) would soak rice and pulses the night before, gently washing them repeatedly, guided by her hands and her watchful, caring eyes. Between quiet stories and soft laughter, she taught us patience – showing us how every grain mattered.

The next morning, the soaked grains would be slowly ground on the silvata, in an unhurried, loving rhythm. That slow process wasn’t just about making batter; it was about love, detail, and intention. Food made this way was lighter, healthier, and filled with something no shortcut could ever replace – love.

At The Batter House, we follow that very same philosophy. Our batters are purely homemade, prepared using traditional, slow-processing and natural fermentation. There is no place for chemicals, artificial enhancers, or shortcuts.

Using authentic, organic batter-making techniques, we allow time to do its quiet magic – just as it always has. In traditional days, the amboli batter was kept with coal fire giving it a coal-like flavour – that’s the same traditional way in which we ferment it preserving the OG aaji’s amboli.

Because when we slow down and do things the right way, we don’t just preserve flavour – we preserve memories.

And if you close your eyes while enjoying our dosa, amboli, or ghavne, you might just hear the familiar sound of our aaji’s giggles and laughter, echoing gently through every bite.
